On 20th December 2023, the Economic and Organised Crime Office inaugurated the EOCO Retired Staff Association (RESA). The inauguration was during its end-of-year get-together at the Head Office.
The Executive Director of EOCO, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah speaking at the inauguration of the RESA said, the establishment of the RESA is a long-time desire of her administration to ensure structured care for hardworking retirees of EOCO. She said that it is important to still find companionship and help at a place where one has worked after they have gone on retirement.
She added that the purpose of the Association is therefore to support retired EOCO staff in time of need and also to draw on their expertise when the need arises. Further, she said to support the Association, the EOCO board has donated twenty thousand cedis as seed money. Finally, she said it gives her so much joy to inaugurate the RESA and thank all persons who made this possible including the EOCO board, staff and members of the retired association.
Taking his turn at the ceremony, the president of RESA Mr Jacob Puplampu thanked the Executive Director, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, and her management team for everything they have done to make the inauguration possible. He also thanked the current staff of EOCO for their various contributions in making the RESA a reality.
Taking her turn again, the Executive Director shared with the gathering some successes of the Office for the year 2023. Notable among them was the number of cases that were investigated and recoveries made which amounted to GHC 214, 640, 175.87 (GHC 35, 346, 277.13 as direct recovery into the consolidated fund and 179,293, 898.74 as indirect recovery to other institutions.
She said EOCO also signed an MOU with Mobile Money Limited and Enterprise Life and was quick to add that the MOU will strengthen already existing collaboration with the two institutions. She mentioned that GIZ and the National Crime Agency (UK) have been of immense help both in capacity building and sponsorship of the sensitisation programme to Senior High Schools in Ghana on Prohibited Cyber Activity and related matters.
She recalled GIZ support in making the five-year strategic plan a reality and also for sponsoring the EOCO Peer review trip to EFCC in Abuja, Nigeria. She also noted that NCA sponsored a 13-member delegation for a Fraud manager’s course at the Economic and Cyber Crime Academy in the United Kingdom.
Again she mentioned that the office held its first ever Media Soiree on its five-year strategic plan where she said the Five-year strategic plan and its rejuvenated mission and vision statement will succinctly aid the communication of a clear direction for the office over the next five years.
EOCO also trained 300 prison officers on cybercrime and cyber security and the Public Affairs Unit interacted with about one hundred and twenty six thousand ,six hundred and thirty six (126,636) students during their sensitisation programme to Senior High Schools in Ghana.
The Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice Hon. Alfred Tuah-Yeboah recounted some enviable achievements of the Office and said that EOCO has worked very hard in 2023 and over achieved its targets. He concluded his speech by wishing the office well in its future endeavours.
Present at the ceremony were some former Executive Directors, the former Deputy Executive Directors, retired senior police officers, members of the governing board, and representatives of other law enforcement agencies both local and international that EOCO collaborated with during the year.
